James Leroy was born in Ottawa, Ontario and spent his childhood and adolescence in Martintown, Ontario before returning to Ottawa. His music career commenced as a folk singer and songwriter for local bands. Local impresario Harvey Glatt agreed to produce and manage Leroy. Glatt produced Leroy's first single, "Touch of Magic", which reached Number 6 on the Canadian Top Singles Chart, published by RPM Magazine. Glatt also arranged for Adam Mitchell to produce the subsequent album, James Leroy and Denim, released by GRT Records in 1973. Denim, Leroy's supporting group, included Gary Comeau, one of the founding members of The Esquires, a nationally recognized Canadian band and Val Tuck. Two further singles from the album, "You Look Good in Denim" and "Make It All Worthwhile" were top 20 Canadian singles.

Leroy dissolved Denim in 1974 and attempted to develop a solo career; two singles were produced by Ian Thomas, but were not successful. An anticipated solo album did not materialize and shortly thereafter at the age of 32, Leroy killed himself in an Ottawa hotel on May 10, 1979.

In 1931, a man who would become a Texas music legend named Bob Wills brought a band soon-to-be-called The Light Crust Doughboys to the Burrus Mill Flour Company. It was the beginning of the great American Jazz age, and the glorious time of Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller and Gene Krupa. Bob Wills and his band, The Light Crust Doughboys, introduced the music genre of Texas Western Swing.

Bam Boo - Rarities

In mid-1983, Bam Boo recorded a three song demo at Quest Studio in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. After much consideration, Mike and Alex disbanded the original lineup of the band, though oddly enough, they released an independent 45 rpm single, "Come Day O' Night Eh!" b/w "In Your Plans". The b-side from the single charted in the Top 10 on CKPT Radio thanks, in great part, to the efforts of music director Dan Gall. This created a lot of buzz and interest from the major record labels in Toronto. Mike and Alex decided to resurrect the band with a new lineup, which included JC Smith (keyboards, bass) and Greg Heard (drums). After playing a series of showcase dates and recording a 4 song demo with producer Brian Ainsworth, they signed a production/publishing deal with ATV Music and eventually landed a recording contract with Capitol/EMI of Canada in 1984.

The album 'Stop All Distractions' was recorded between the Fall of 1984 and early 1985 and was released in June 1985 on Capitol/EMI Canada. The album's line-up consisted of Mike Langford, Alex Stangle, Phil Poppa (saxophone), Robert Steele (keyboards), Max E. Drachenberg aka Max Styles of The Kings (drums), and bassist Ken "Spider" Sinnaeve (Streetheart, Tom Cochrane). The single from the album, "Come Day O' Night Eh!" -- featuring the non-album B-side "Laughing When We're Young" -- had a short shelf life on the Top 100 Chart in Canada, peaking at #91. The video for the single received a bit of airplay on Canada's music video channel Much Music, but the album stiffed after generally receiving poor reviews. A second single, "Miles In My Hand" -- featuring the non-album B-side "Nothing Left To Say" -- was released in the summer of 1985, but there was very little excitement or enthusiasm for the band. One of the major problems was the turnover rate of their membership, making it extremely difficult to maintain any kind of momentum.
